Gonna go in our Bible to two places this morning to begin. We’re gonna be in Ephesians chapter five to start and, we also gonna be in Titus chapter two briefly. But let’s go first to Ephesians chapter five.

Ephesians five Now, again, we’re in our August Family Focus. So, every message that every Bible study, every sermon that we’re that we’re studying this month is going to be focused in some way on the family, marriage, husbands, wives, children, in some way focused on those things and this morning is one of those. Of course, you know that Ephesians chapter five is one of the go to places in the relationship between the husband and the wife.

Lord willing, what I would like to do today is both this morning and tonight to cover this portion of Ephesians chapter five starting in verse 22 down through the end of the chapter.

Now, when I say that, I want you to understand that Ephesians five twenty two through 24, which is what we’re going to read this morning, it is paired with chapter five verse 25 down through the end of the chapter. In other words, they go together in the way the Lord presents this truth, he presents he presents it together, kind of like a a scale, if you if you will, where he says, he gives exhortations, he gives commands, he gives directions to the wife as well as to the husband, and they are supposed to go together.

Now, we’ve already studied first Peter chapter three and we know that doesn’t always happen and there’s that’s just a reality and in first Peter three, we we studied that already where to the wife who is married to a husband who is not in obedience to the Lord, the Lord gives specific directions for that case. But it’s not supposed to be like that. Right? In a Christian family, which is what is How it’s supposed to be, right? It’s supposed to be believers marry believers. That’s the that’s the intention. Now some of you in our in our church here, where you were saved.

You you’re already married when you were saved and the lord was merciful to you and saved your spouse too and so you you ended up there even if you didn’t you didn’t start there and we get we we we so thank god for that. But it’s supposed to be, right? If you come up and you’re saved at a younger age, that you marry someone who is a believer because it is a huge, colossal lifetime mistake to marry an unbeliever. Now there are occasions where God does give mercy, and that other spouse comes to the Lord Jesus Christ and is saved later, and we give God mercy for that, but it very, as often as that happens, the other happens.

And it’s, this is not, it’s just not God’s will. And so, but these these things what we read in Ephesians chapter five are supposed are supposed to be things that go together. Now I just wanna say this again, wanna be transparent with you, because I have so often heard especially chapter five verses 22 to 24, which is directed toward wives, made into a joke. So often you know joked about, and really not handled in a way that is sober and serious because sometimes it is a little bit awkward or whatever.

But it is serious business and I wanna show you why as we get into the rest of the message in the text. Let’s start in verse number 22. The Bible says this, wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church, and he is the savior of the body.

Therefore, as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Now go if you would to Titus chapter two. We’ll come back to Ephesians. So, hold your place there if you would. Titus chapter two.

Now the question of God’s proper order in the home. Let me just say this to start. There are many are many earthly benefits both to husband and to wife in a home in which the husband is the head of the wife and the wife is in submission to her husband. There are many earthly benefits. But the primary reason that we seek to follow that order is because it is God’s order.

That’s a starting point of it all. And here’s the reason that’s significant is because there are many arguments, know, you’ve probably those of you that are keyed in on this kind of thing, you’ve heard of complementarianism versus utilitarianism and the idea of the, and it’s just fancy words to describe the roles of husbands and wives. And in our day, that is mainly utilitarianism means that the husband and the wife are equals in their roles.

And so the idea is that the wife is not to submit to herself to her husband and that’s not a thing. And then complementarianism is the other, which is what we read here in Ephesians five. So the reason it’s important to understand that this is God’s order because we’re not just talking practical matters. Well, know, my husband’s the better, you know, he’s a natural leader so we’re gonna let him lead. And if the reverse is true and the woman is the natural leader, and sometimes that’s the case, that it should be different. It’s not a pragmatic question, it’s a biblical question.

It’s a Biblical question. And it’s a question that the Lord directly addresses, in this case to the wives, and of course we are going to cover the husbands as well, because again they go together.

But it’s an important question beyond just the practical, because this question of the order of the home is something that touches people outside the home. And here’s what I mean. Titus chapter two, look if you would at verse number verse number three.

The aged women likewise, that they be in behavior as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things, that they may teach the younger women, the young women, to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, notice this is the one I wanna point out that is overlapping with Ephesians five, obedient to their own husbands.

Now I’m well aware that what I’m saying is not popular. But that does not change what the text of scripture says. It still says it. And the thing we have to remember is the one who is saying it. It’s not me, and to those of you that have that that are married, those ladies who have husbands, it’s not your husband. It’s the Lord that is saying this. And it does have it does have import outside of your just your family and your relationship with your husband because it says, notice in verse number nine, or I’m sorry, number five, obedient to their own husbands that the word of God be not blasphemed.

To blaspheme the word of God is to speak against it. And so, now I know that being obedient to one’s own husband is one of many things in this list in verse number four, verses four and five, and I I acknowledge that. But when when the the order of the home is not right, and not proper, and not according to God’s word, it does absolutely reflect upon God and his word and the gospel.

That’s what the that’s what the verse says. Now nobody’s gonna, you know, very few people are gonna come up to a lady who seeks to be in submission to her husband and in the proper place that a wife is supposed to be with her husband. Nobody’s gonna come up to you and say, oh well, I see that you submit to your husband and you know, good on you and I think Jesus is better because of that. Nobody’s doing that.

In fact, you’ll probably get the reverse. I know when we were first married, my wife was was often mocked by our own family members she, I mean, even something as simple as you know, making a plate of food and bringing it to me and just you know, simple things like that, which is really not what we’re talking about, but just that. And people would mock and jeer and say things, make comments and you know, knit knit, you know you know, make little comments like that.

That’s more like what you’re gonna get the response to something like this. And sometimes you have to remember because it says, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

That, as I said, people are not gonna generally gonna praise ladies for taking that role. They’re gonna look down upon it, and sometimes say unkind things in that way. And they might they might claim that it’s a bad thing and all of that, but the word of God says that when it’s out of order, that’s when it’s bad.

You know one of the most powerful force forces that come with the gospel is that rebuke to the world from simply living godly principles. That’s one of the strongest rebukes. The biggest rebuke to darkness is the light. And in this case the light is the proper order of the home with the husband and the wife. So you don’t have to say, don’t you have to go around and beat your chest and you have to say, well I believe that women ought to submit themselves. No.

The very fact that you attempt to do that is going to stir up that effect. And sometimes the best way to know that an effect is being had upon someone is a negative reaction, not a positive one.

The point is is that the question of your relationship between sir to your wife and ma’am to your husband, that relationship and the order and the leadership structure in your home is something that does affect the gospel, has broader ramifications just between you and your husband, but goes into your your children, your grandchildren, and the broader world because people are watching. That’s not the most important thing, but that is a thing, and it shows how important it is both for in the home and outside the home. So if you would go back to Ephesians five.

Let’s take a minute, pause, and pray, and ask the Lord to to guide us in our study of his word in Ephesians five. Our father in heaven, we thank you for the chance to study your word. I pray that you’d help each person in here to profit from your word because that’s why you gave it, Lord. You gave it for our good because you’re a good God and Lord you are good and you’re very kind.

I pray for the husbands, I pray for the wives here. Lord, please make our marriages and our church strong, godly, righteous, holy. Please help the husbands to fill the role you have given them toward their wives, and please help the wives to fill the role that you have given to them toward their husbands. And I pray that that effect, that good effect would reverberate in our church, among our kids, among other brothers and sisters in Christ, and also in the world at large.

And even for those who aren’t married, Lord, I know there are some among us that aren’t married, and that’s fine, but I pray that you would still help them, and that you would instruct them and guide them in your will and your way, even as we study this specific truth. So Lord help us, help me to say the things you want me to say and in the spirit you’d have me to say them.

In Jesus name, amen. The first thing I wanna point out to you from Ephesians five twenty two through 24 is the pattern, The pattern. It says in verse 22, wives submit yourselves unto your own husbands as unto the Lord. Verse 24 says this, therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. So the Lord does not say to the wife, he doesn’t say just submit to your husband. No, he says submit yourselves to your husband and then he provides an example, a known truth that you have and I have as a guide to what that is actually supposed to look like. So we’re not walking in the dark, we’re not groping trying to figure out what it’s supposed to look like and in what circumstances we’re supposed to do this and that. No, the Lord puts forth the pattern and the pattern is this, as the church is subject to Christ.

So if you have any question, if I have any question about in various circumstances, we could take that same question, apply it to the church and our relationship as a church to the to Christ and the answer to that will be the answer to this.

I wanna say something. That is a high standard And it’s not lost on me that that is a high standard. For the man coming up in chapter five verse 25, that’s also a very high standard. But we do have a pattern, but we need to just acknowledge what the Lord is saying to wives is a very high standard. But it is doable, but it is only doable by the power of the spirit of God. The first thing though is to acknowledge this is God’s word. This is God’s will.

And you might be in a place as a lady with a husband, you might be in a place where you’re like Lord, I need your help. It’s true of men when they’re trying to love their wives as Christ loved the church. Sometimes men say, Lord, I need help. Well, same is true of ladies. We can’t do these things. We can’t follow this pattern because it is such a high standard without the power of the Spirit of God. So what does it mean to submit? It says, wives submit yourselves unto your own husbands. And it says in verse 24, as the church is subject, same word, unto Christ, so let their wives be to their own husbands in everything. To submit simply means this, to yield one’s will to the will of another.

To yield one’s will to the will of another. Now there is a reason why these go together, because automatically the question, Lord is giving a command to wives and he’s saying submit yourselves unto your own husbands. And that means to yield your will to the will of your spouse. And the automatic question we get kind of the kind of knee jerk response, the reflex is, but what about what I want?

This is why they have to go together. This is why they have to go together. Because when we come back tonight, and let me encourage you to make plans to be back tonight, because you need both. If you’re married, you need both. You need both sides of this, not just one side. Both the husband and the wife need both sides. I know you say, well this is directed toward the wives. True.

But I’m not just gonna speak to the wives this morning. We need both. And so that the When the Lord says yield your will to the will of your husband, the automatic question is what about what I want? And there is an answer to that. It’s not just like well I guess for the rest of my life because I’m married to death, I guess that means that you know, I don’t ever get anything that I want. No, to the contrary.

Directed to the wives, that’s that’s not true at all. But this is what the word submit means. And I want you to see this, look at verse 22. Wives, submit yourselves. Husbands, I mentioned this on Wednesday night, but I’ll say it again because it’s kind of a hobby horse.

There’s nowhere in scripture where the husband has any power to force his wife to submit. That is not a thing. To whom is this addressed in verse 22, if you look at the text. Who is addressed here? The wife. And she is told it is not husbands submit your wives. It is a voluntary action of the wife.

So, there’s no there’s no like room for a man to somehow manipulate or coerce or anything. If if if a woman is intent on rebelling against the word of God in this matter, the husband really does not have a lot of power. He can remind her of what the scripture says, but ultimately it says, wives submit yourselves. It has to be an act of voluntary act. This is why it’s so important that you marry someone who is a believer who has God in in them.

Because it it will have to be a work of God that brings them to that point where they’re willing to do what the Lord says. I know there are men, and oftentimes many of the objections the order, God’s order of the home, don’t come from loving biblical husbands in that situation, but those objections are based upon the bad examples of men who do not love their wives, and who do not treat their wives rightly, and who use this idea of submission that God commands here, they use it as an excuse to use their wives wrongly.

And that’s not right. But that’s also because it is not right, it is not an excuse or it is not an argument against the truth of these verses. That’s why again, you gotta have both. To submit, again, yielding your will to the will of another. Now the biblical basis for this, look if you would at first Corinthians chapter 11.

First Corinthians chapter 11. There has also been talk about, well, the only reason that God says that women have to submit, wives have to submit to their husbands is because Eve sinned, and if Eve had not sinned, then that would not be the case. In other words, the whole idea of this order of the home is presented as kind of a kind of a secondary cause of sin.

And so we wanna go back to the ideal where we’re where we’re there is no submission involved. But actually that’s not true. First Corinthians chapter 11 verse number eight says this, look what it says. First Corinthians eight, I’m sorry chapter 11 verse eight. It says, for the man is not of the woman, but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman, but the woman for the man.

This is before there was sin in the world, this is at creation. God made a woman from man. And then not only did he do that as a fact of history, as a record of history, then he uses that truth as the basis for why he has ordered the home in the way it’s ordered. And it says further, neither was the man created for the woman, but the woman for the man. She was created to be his help. That’s also something we see in Genesis, before the fall. Which is why again, we have this order in the home. Look at if you would at first Timothy chapter two.

First Timothy chapter two. Verse 13. Now the context of this is inside the church, but the principle is all the more applicable inside the home. Verse 13, for Adam was first formed, then Eve. Adam was first formed, Eve. So you have three things. The reason why the Lord has this order is because God created Adam first, then Eve, God created Eve from Adam, and God created Eve for Adam.

That has nothing to do with sin at all. Now going back to Ephesians five, we see the pattern that wives are to submit themselves to their husbands like the church submits herself to the Lord.

You have to remember that the Lord himself gives this command. I know we think of our relationship with our husband and wife as a human relationship, like my relationship with my wife and whether she submits to me and whether I love her as as that that kind of, we might say horizontal kind of relationship between between people. But the fact that God commands this means it’s not just a horizontal thing, it’s also vertical. In other words, it is the Lord that has given this command to wives.

It’s not simply between my wife and me, if I do not love my wife, it is a matter that God is gonna hold me accountable for. Because he commanded. And if she does not live in submission to her husband it is a matter that she will give an account to God for because it is God that commanded it. It is in other words, your The way that you fulfill your role as a wife, because that’s the ones we’re addressing at this moment, is really a matter between you and God.

And you have to you have to get that. Whether you raise your kids or whether you’re dealing with your spouse and you’re trying to have a good relationship, all of these things, what we do is not like well, whether he’s nice to me or whether he does the right thing or whether I think That’s not the point. The point is it is a command from God. And so whether we do it or not, ultimately has to do with our relationship to God. If I do not love my wife, for that’s that’s my role in chapter five, if I do not love my wife, not only am I sinning against my wife, I’m sinning against God. And and the truth, the same is true of a wife.

If she is not submitted to her husband, but she lives in rebellion to that order, that’s a sin and a rebellion against God who gave the command. So it’s never just about our spouse.

What would happen? Remember the pattern now, the pattern is the church in Christ. What would what would happen, what would we say if the church or a Christian were to say to the Lord, Lord I I don’t wanna do your will, I ain’t doing it. I know you want me to do A, B or C, but I don’t wanna do it. And we know Christians do this all the time.

What would we say? How would we describe that Christian? Again, this is the pattern. We would say that Christian is living in rebellion. The same then the pattern is applied to this human relationship. The way that a wife is to submit to her husband is the way that a Christian, the church, is supposed to submit to Christ.

Now, this pattern also dispels versions of submission that are not biblical. What do I mean by that? What would you say, again we’re looking at the pattern. What would you say if there was a Christian who said he was gonna do the will of God, and we’ve studied this in Matthew, he said he was gonna do the will of God and he made it look like he was doing the will of God, but behind the scenes he really wasn’t.

The hypocrisy, like the Pharisees had that hypocrisy where they appeared to be you know seeking God, but their heart was far from him and they were not actually doing what God told them to do. Remember like the the cases with the with the the Korban, you remember when they gave the they gave the offering and God said for them to honor their parents with that offering, but instead of doing that they wanted to look religious and so they gave it as an offering and then their parents are in need and they’d say, oh, can’t help you because you know I gave this as a gift.

In other words, it looks like they’re obeying God but they’re not, right? Now take that pattern and apply it to a husband and wife relationship. I’ve been married a minute. This year, twenty six years I’ve been married. And so those of you that have married, mean we all live in, we’re all in the same boat here. We all act the same way, we all do the same things.

And many times, again speaking to the wives here, many times submission is something that look it’s superficial, but behind the scenes it’s not happening. And let me let me state it a little bit further because Lord, for the church, for the Christian, the Lord doesn’t want superficial obedience. He wants The Bible says obedience from the heart. Right? He wants the substance, not just the look. And so it is with the wife and her husband.

It’s not just about, and this is a feature of especially Christian, kind of maybe you could say conservative Christian circles, because generally conservative Christian ladies acknowledge that this is God’s order for the home. They give, they acknowledge that. They’ll nod, they give lip service, but behind the scenes they’re not doing it.

They say, yeah, my husband is the leader of my home and he’s my leader, he’s my head of the wife and all that, but behind the scenes they are with subtlety manipulating their husband to do their will.

Or behind the scenes they are actually not in submission at all. In other words, they’re in submission in form but not in deed. But that’s not the pattern. The pattern is do it from the heart because remember we’re talking about God who sees all.

I’ve seen it among Christian ladies, I’ve seen Christian ladies who seek to control and manipulate their husbands with the front of submission. That is not Biblical submission. Biblical submission is from the heart, it’s of substance, it’s not just a look. We can’t give lip service to it and then not actually do it behind the scenes. Now I know there are many reasons, and I’m gonna talk about all of them in just a second, that women have a hard time doing this.

But to settle the matter, the Lord wants actual true, from the heart, wife submitting herself to her husband, yielding her will to her husband voluntarily. But there is, if we look at the pattern, remember we’re still on pattern, there’s one way that the pattern gets a little complicated.

The pattern is as the church is to Christ. And some ladies probably are thinking this, but my husband is not Christ. Right? And did the Lord give us the pattern? He absolutely gave us the pattern. Did He knowingly give us the pattern knowing that our husbands, your husbands, I don’t have a husband, your husbands are not like Christ? Yes, he did. He but he still gave us the pattern. So the fact that your husband sometimes acts out of the way, and doesn’t do what he should do, doesn’t negate, the Lord already knew he would do that. Okay, that doesn’t make it okay, but that he already knew knew that and he still gave us the pattern.

This is where it sometimes falls apart. Because the wife sees her husband who is inconsistent. She sees her husband who is sinful, who has fault and you wife, you of all people, you know more of the faults of your husbands, more of the sin of your husband than anybody else, right?

You know and here’s the thing, if you’re not careful and you think only in terms of this direction between myself and my husband, you’ll start to look at his faults and take that as an excuse to not really listen to what he says. And that’s not right because it’s come The directive comes from the Lord. We can’t just do that, not and do the will of God.

But it nevertheless, it is a reality that our husbands, your husbands anyway, aren’t always right. They do wrong. Yet the Lord says that this is God’s pattern and this is God’s will for the family.

So let’s talk about that a minute. And this is where it comes down to trust. Trust is a very important part of family relationships. It’s very important between husband and wife, and it’s very important between parents and children. Vital. And before August is up, I hope to talk about this very thing in regards to children.

So the Lord commands the wife to submit herself to her husband, but to do that, and those of you that are wives, you know what I’m saying is true. But to do that, that requires a lot of trust. To truly from the heart submit and yield your will to the will of another requires a lot of trust. And it is hard to do sometimes when you see the faults of your husband. That’s just a fact.

Because your husband might have actually betrayed your trust in some way to some degree. And so you you might have a difficult time doing that. And so husbands, I say to you, be careful because trust is a commodity that is very hard to get and very, very quick to be lost. And really, if you, listen, as a husband, if you lose the trust of your wife because you’ve been playing the fool and acting acting like an idiot and sinning against god.

You are actually casting a stumbling block before your wife that’s making it difficult for her to submit to you. Because submission requires trust. Needs to know that you are going to put her needs first.

She needs to know that you are going to be faithful. She’s being vulnerable. Submission is vulnerability. She needs to know and trust and it be provable that you are worthy of that commitment that she’s making to you.

Anytime someone yields themselves to the leadership of another, trust is involved. You come to our church, you join our church, there’s a level of trust involved that the leaders are trying to do the will of God. Is there not? Yeah, because you don’t know everything that’s going on, there’s trust. When your kids obey their parents, there’s trust. Husband you cannot burn that, that has to be held sacred.

Because by doing so you help your wife obey the Lord. And maybe this is one of the reason why so many wives have difficulty submitting to their husbands. Maybe even here. It might be because her trust has been broken and she doesn’t really feel safe to submit to you. Now that’s not an excuse, because it’s still a directive from the Lord. That’s a hard thing to deal with, but really the blame of that, the bulk of the blame lays at the feet of the husband.

And again, I a whole list of things for the husband, okay, so come back tonight and I’m gonna load the wheelbarrow of the husband too. But this, verse 22, wives submit yourselves under your own husbands as unto the Lord for the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church and he is the savior of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. So the Lord tells the wives to yield their will to the will of their husbands. So you know what that does, that creates a leadership vacuum.

You know there’s some women that are willing to yield their will and submit to their husbands in a biblical way, but the husband will not step up and lead them in a biblical way. That isn’t right. And they just we just passively say, well, do what you want. No. The fact that the Lord tells your wife to submit means you are supposed to step up and be the leader for her.

It’s hard to submit and look to another for leadership when the leader is just playing video games all day and not actually providing spiritual and physical and other kinds of leadership in the in in the marriage. So, let this be to the husbands. Let this be the wake up call that no, if she’s gonna yield her will to you, you had better step up and be the leader that she needs to be and guide her steps.

Don’t just leave her to fend for herself. Does Christ do that with the church? No. What does he do? He actively takes leadership. And if you want your wife to submit to you, you have to be the leader and be the thing that you want to lead her to be. That’s what leadership is all about. Again, stand by for the sequel tonight.

And this is also another reason why the whole concept of submission fails, because husband says, nah, I don’t want to lead her. And a lot of times, and we already covered this before, but a lot of times husbands don’t want to lead is because they themselves are compromised. We already talked about that.

Now to finish up, the last thing I wanna show you is this. Verse 24 says, therefore as the church is subject under Christ, so let the wise be to their own husbands in everything. And the mean husband who likes to use this submission thing to misuse that against his wife, He concentrates on in everything. But that phrase in everything is not absolute. It is not. It’s not absolute.

There are absolutely limits to submission. And the limits to submission don’t come from because the husband has faults. Listen, my wife has faults, I have faults, she knows them, I know I know hers. Just because my wife has faults and she messes up and that kind of thing, that doesn’t mean I I have an excuse not to love her, does it? Well the same is true with the wife, with submission.

But we’re not talking about faults. He’s faulty, she’s faulty. We’re talking about what are the actual limits of submission, where it’s like no, I cannot do this. Because some people are brought into this kind of situation against their will.

This command of the Lord for the wife to submit herself to her husband means that, remember the command came from the Lord. So if the husband tells the wife to do something that is not God’s will, or something that is unwise or sinful, number one, he is responsible for that. And number two, she is not bound by submission to obey that. And this is a very, this is very simple. You remember when in Acts chapter five when the leaders hauled Peter and John up before the council? What did they say to him? Five twenty nine says this, then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, we ought to obey God rather than men. See, the husband who’s hard nosed and wants to use submission against his wife to just arbitrarily control her, The reminder is the Lord reminds us that that command for the wife to submit to her husband came from God.

Which means that she is also under an obligation from the Lord to obey the Lord’s word. So if the husband misuses that and tries to get his wife to do things that are sinful, she has no obligation before God, she must obey God rather than man. For even submission itself comes from God.

This is where the pattern for the church in Christ kind of start to split. Because we know the Lord Jesus never leads any of His people to do something contrary to His will. So there’s never that danger in the pattern, but in human relationships this sometimes happens.

But the fact that there are limits, and there are absolutely limits to submission, biblical submission, it does remind us of this one fact. That even if the Lord commands the wife to submit herself to her husband, she is still responsible to God.

You know, I’ve been describing a lady who has a hard time submitting to her husband. And that’s a common thing. But there’s another version in Christian circles of a lady who wants to hide behind her husband.

Who submits to the point where she takes no initiative on her own to walk with God, live for God. And that’s not right either. This command is not directed, husbands, tell your wives to submit. No, this is from God directly to the wife.

And so, wife, you are still personally responsible to God to walk with God and live for God regardless of what your husband does. And the reverse is true as well. And the best example for this is Acts chapter five.

Ananias and Sapphira. The Bible says in Acts five that Ananias sold this land and kept the money, and then he said he had sold it and gave it all, so he lied. And the Bible says that Sapphira his wife was privy to it. Which tells me that he did it and she was aware. So he’s the main doer of this sin. And you remember what happens is he comes and he says, he gives this partial offering and then Peter says, why have you lied to the Holy Ghost? And he says, what are you talking about? No, I sold it for this much and he dropped dead, right? Holy Ghost struck him down and killed him.

But his wife wasn’t there. And then later, his wife comes in and notice Peter asks him the same Peter asked her the same question as he. Why have you conspired to lie against the Holy Ghost? And you know what she did? At that moment, first of all the fact that he asked her shows that she has in her own right personal responsibility to God regardless of what her husband does. She didn’t have to obey him in this sin. And indeed wives are not supposed to submit in sinful things.

She didn’t have to. But she had an opportunity to independent of him do right. And she chose to do wrong. And she met the same fate as her husband. But that shows us that she still had that responsibility independent of her husband.

You know if we’re If the principle of submission is hardwired into human beings, how do we know it? Because of what we read in first Corinthians. It’s part of our, it’s a part of the way that God has made this world and made human beings and made human society. It started before the fall. Therefore, if you are gonna have a happy marriage, you’re gonna have to follow the principles and commands of the Lord that bring that happy marriage to pass.

And if you don’t, the fruit of that disobedience will be felt in your life. It’ll be felt in the husband and it’ll be felt in the wife on both ends in both cases.

And so this is why we need to come back to our home and say, Lord, do I really have a biblical relationship with my husband? Do I really have a biblical relationship with my wife? Lord, what changes do I need to make? Am I truly submitted to my husband like you’ve told me to? And to lay yourself just before the Lord and say, Lord, am I here?

Am I here? Let’s pray.
